About Us

The SAINT PAUL HOMEBREWERS CLUB (SPHBC) was formed in 1998 by Curt Stock and Gary Hipple, but now consists of over 100 area home brewers as well as members from farther afield.

In 2007, 2008 and again in 2009 we ranked #1 in the nation for homebrew clubs. This ranking is based on points gained in Club-Only-Competitions and the National Homebrew Competition.

We are based in Saint Paul (though membership contains brewers from many surrounding communities) and meet occasionally to discuss homebrewing, share information, openly converse, and sample each others beer. Meetings are sometimes scheduled as 'big brews', where up to 9 people brew on 50 gallon batch of beer on our club system and then split the wort (unfermented beer) between participants. Membership to the club is $12 for 2 years payable in January of your renewing year (no prorating is done).

Big Brew Equipment To stay notified of upcoming events, it is best to join our club mailing list. Events will be published on this website as well, but often it is quicker to receive it via e-mail.

SAINT PAUL HOMEBREWERS CLUB is an AHA registered club and it meets monthly at The Happy Gnome, Selby Ave, St. Paul on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm, usually upstairs. All homebrewers and those who want to know more about homebrewing are welcome.
